Terry Szuplat in conversation with Josh Earnest "Say It Well"

Terry Szuplat, One of President Obama’s longest-serving speechwriters, will be in conversation with Josh Earnest, Former White House Press Secretary, about his new book, Say It Well, here at The Book Cellar!

About the Book:

Filled with never-before-heard insights and advice on public speaking from President Obama, riveting never-before-told behind-the-scenes stories from inside the Oval Office and aboard Air Force One, Say It Well is timely, topical, and urgent -- including sections on how to speak with civility, how to tell the truth, how to spot a demagogue, and how to persuade family, friends, and neighbors by appealing to shared values. And Say It Well is truly inspiring, full of stories of people from all walks of life who have raised their voice and touched the hearts of millions of people.

Furthermore, in Say It Well (the title comes from a Sylvia Plath poem), Szuplat shares the life-changing lessons he learned from Barack Obama and how he applied these techniques to become a better speaker and communicator himself, and practical tips to help readers communicate more effectively with any audience, from their company to their community. Say It Well empowers readers to become more confident and compelling speakers, communicators, and leaders in their work and in life.

Today, Terry runs his own speechwriting firm, Global Voice Communications, drawing on his nearly 30 years of experience helping leaders in government, business, advocacy, philanthropy, and entertainment inspire audiences around the world. He teaches speechwriting at his alma mater, American University’s School of Public Affairs, his essays have appeared in publications like The New Yorker and The Washington Post, and he is a regular commentator on television and radio.
