Local Author Night - Poetry Month Edition!

Join us at The Book Cellar for a special Poetry Month Edition of local author night, featuring local poets:Richard Fox (Swagger and Remorse), Robert McDonald, Cynthia Gallaher (Epicurean Ecstasy), Elizabeth O'Connell (Honorable Mention), and Darren Angle. 

About Richard Fox: For over twenty years, Richard Fox has been a regular contributor to literary journals far and wide; online and in print. “Swagger & Remorse,” his first book of poetry, was published in 2007. He produced “Hula,” a recording of his work, in 2014. He was the recipient of a full poetry fellowship from the Illinois Arts Council. He holds a BFA in Photography from Temple University, Philadelphia, and lives in Chicago.

 

About Robert McDonald: Robert McDonald's poems and prose have appeared in a wide variety of online and print journals, including The Columbia Poetry Review, Mudfish, and The New York Quarterly. He's written book and theater reviews for national and local publications, and taught writing workshops to adults and children.  With Kathie Bergquist, he's the author of the book A Field Guide to Gay and Lesbian Chicago. He's worked for many years at independent bookstores in the Chicagoland area. 

 

About Cynthia Gallaher: Since she's started writing, Cynthia come out with four published poetry collections: Epicurean Ecstasy: More Poems About Food, Drink, Herbs & Spices (The Poetry Box, 2018); Earth Elegance (March Abrazo Press, Chicago, 2000) poems on animals and the environment; Swimmer’s Prayer (Missing Spoke Press, Seattle, 1999), poems about Chicago; and Night Ribbons (Polar Bear Press, Chicago, 1990); and three chapbooks, most recently Drenched (Main Street Rag Publishing Company, 2018). Also a nonfiction memoir, reference and guide, Frugal Poets' Guide to Life: How to Live a Poetic Life, Even If You Aren't a Poet (Bookbaby, 2016), which won a National Indie Excellence Award. She appears on the Chicago Public Library’s list of “Top Ten Requested Chicago Poets,” and was named one of “100 Women Making a Difference” by Today’s Chicago Woman magazine.

 

About Elizabeth O'Connell-Thompson: Elizabeth O'Connell-Thompson lives in Chicago, where she runs the Wasted Pages Writers' Workshop and works for the Poetry Foundation. She is the author of Honorable Mention (dancing girl press, 2017), and her work has been published in Poetry Ireland Review, RHINO, Entropy, and The Best New British and Irish Poets 2017, among others. She has been a resident at The Moth Retreat for Artists and Writers and the Sundress Academy for the Arts.
