The Book Cellar hosts its monthly Local Author Night! This month we are pleased to present Chris Bower (The Family Dogs) Peggy Shinner (You Feel So Mortal), and Margaret Chapman (Bell and Bargain).
Chris Bower is a writer and teacher based in Chicago. He is the curator and host of the Ray’s Tap Reading Series in Chicago and a founding member of Found Objects Theatre Group. His debut book of short stories with illustrations by Susie Kirkwood is forthcoming in 2015. You can find him at holdmyhorses.com.
Peggy Shinner is the author of You Feel So Mortal / Essays on the Body (University of Chicago Press, April 2014). Her work has appeared inBOMB, The Southern Review, Colorado Review, TriQuarterly, Fourth Genre, Bloom, and most recently on Salon. Newcity, Chicago's cultural weekly, named her one of the Lit 50 2014: Who Really Books in Chicago, and she has been awarded two Illinois Arts Council Fellowships and a fellowship at Ausable Press. Currently, she teaches in the MFA program at Northwestern University. As a trained martial artist, she taught Seido karate for seventeen years.
Margaret Patton Chapman is a writer and teacher of writing living in Durham, NC. Her novella, Bell and Bargain is forthcoming from Rose Metal Press in November 2014. Chapman holds an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has taught in Chicago, South Bend, IN and in Durham. She recently led workshops at the Iowa Summer Writers' Festival. Her academic and literary interests are deeply rooted in ideas of retelling, iteration, liminality and authenticity.
