Authors Jac Jemc and Aaron Burch come to The Book Cellar to read from their new books!

From Jac Jemc, A Different Bed Every Time

A Different Bed Everytime: A thief steals the air from a room. Children invent a nursery rhyme to make sense of their fate. A band of girls rot from the outside in. These characters stumble through joy and murder and confusion, only to survive and wait for the next catastrophe to arrive. Moments so brief and disturbing you can't afford to look away. Jac Jemc's affecting stories mine the territory between what is real and the stories we tell to create understanding.

Jac Jemc lives in Chicago where she writes fiction and poetry. Her first novel, My Only Wife (Dzanc Books) was named a finalist for the 2013 PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for Debut Fiction and winner of the Paula Anderson Book Award. A chapbook of stories, This Stranger She'd Invited In, was made available from Greying Ghost Press in March 2011.  Jac's nonfiction was featured on the long list for Best American Essays 2014 and her story "Women in Wells" was featured in the 2010 Best of the Web anthology. Jac received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has completed residencies at Ragdale and the Vermont Studio Center. She is the web nonfiction editor for Hobart and poetry editor at decomP. In 2012 she was the recipient of an Illinois Arts Council Professional Development Grant and in 2014 she was named as one of 25 Writers to Watch by the Guild Literary Complex.

From Aaron Burch, How to Predict the Weather

How to Predict the Weather: Ranging from lyrical commands to surreal narratives, Aaron Burch’s short fictions swirl with whimsy, meditation, sadness, and hope; blur the line between real and imagined; and focus on loss of lovers, of family members, and even of one’s self! From the founder and editor of the literary journal Hobart.

Aaron Burch is the author of How to Predict the Weather (Keyhole Books). His stories have appeared in New York Tyrant, Barrelhouse, and Quick Fiction, among others. He is also the editor of Hobart: another literary journal. His new book Backswing is out now.
