The Book Cellar
This March, we invite you to celebrate the literary and feminist titan Virginia Woolf with us, with an evening celebrating her work and her life. Readings of her work will be shared, as well as a staged dramatic performance of Dominick Argento's Pulitzer prize-winning song cycle, From The Diary of Virginia Woolf.
From The Diary of Virginia Woolf is the story of a brilliant, queer, mentally ill woman, which is as relevant today as it was in 1975 (when it was composed) or in 1941 (when the diary ended). Woolf's diary is the closest we'll get to her autobiography, which seems fitting for one of the pioneers of stream of consciousness literary writing. Through Argento’s meticulous and conscientious musical setting, we tell her story in her own words in an unconventional, interactive production.
Virginia Woolf will be played by Marysa Abbas, with music direction by pianist Jordan Crice and stage direction by Rose Freeman. Donations are always welcome!
