Chuck Schaden in Conversation with Steve Darnall, "Chuck Schaden's Radio Days"

Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear as Chicago radio legend Chuck Schaden and writer/publisher Steve Darnall come together to discuss Chuck Schaden's Radio Days (Chuck's new autobiography chronicling his remarkable 39-year radio career) and the 45th anniversary of Nostalgia Digest, the publication that Chuck started in 1974 to celebrate the "Golden Age" of entertainment, that era when radio was a "theater of the mind" and the movies had more stars than there were in heaven.

About Chuck Schaden: Broadcaster/historian CHUCK SCHADEN was producer and host of the long-running Those Were the Days radio program from 1970 to 2009. He has been nationally recognized for his efforts and was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1993, the only radio fan to be so honored. A former newspaper editor and marketing executive, he was the founding editor and publisher of Nostalgia Digest (1974-2005). 

He edited and published The Cinnamon Bear Book, (1982) a nostalgic remembrance of the classic kids’ radio show.  He is author of WBBM Radio: Yesterday and Today, (1988) a history of station WBBM, Chicago; Speaking of Radio –Chuck Schaden’s conversations with the stars of the Golden Age of Radio(2003); and  Chuck Schaden's Radio Days, Adding Decades to the Golden Age of Radio(2019). 

 

He was the founding editor and publisher of Nostalgia Digest (1974-2005).  He edited and published The Cinnamon Bear Book, (1982) a nostalgic remembrance of the classic kids’ radio show.  He is author of WBBM Radio: Yesterday and Today, (1988) a history of station WBBM, Chicago and is author of Speaking of Radio –Chuck Schaden’s conversations with the stars of the Golden Age of Radio(2003) published by his Nostalgia Digest Press. Also a founding member of the Board of Directors of Chicago’s Museum of Broadcast Communications, he is a leading radio historian and a frequent resource for public libraries, metropolitan daily and community newspapers and colleges and universities throughout the country. He has been nationally recognized for his efforts and was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1993.

About Steve Darnall: Steve Darnall is a writer and radio historian whose credits include The Chicago Tribune and Marvel Comics. He currently hosts the weekly old-time radio showcase Those Were the Days and is the publisher and editor of Nostalgia Digest, a publication dedicated to the "Golden Age" of entertainment.
