**CANCELED**Tracey S. Phillips, "Best Kept Secrets" in conversation with Layne Fargo, "Temper"

Tracey S. Phillips will be stopping by The Book Cellar for the launch of her new book, Best Kept Secrets, and will be joined by Layne Fargo, author of Temper, for some juicy conversation.

About Best Kept Secrets

Morgan Jewell and Fay Ramsey are enjoying their last summer together before college. Fay is shy, with a controlling mother, and Morgan is the perfect, wild, loud-mouthed yang to Fay’s yin. But when Fay is found dead, Morgan’s entire world crumbles.

Years later, Morgan is still haunted by the abrupt end to her best friend’s life. She knew Fay held a secret in those final days, but Morgan, now a homicide detective, has failed to make a picture out of the crooked puzzle pieces she left behind. Nothing makes sense. The leads have run dry. Until she’s called to the scene of a murder: a woman whose body is left mangled, too similar to Fay’s to ignore.

Could it be? Morgan vowed to do right by Fay. This is the case she’s been waiting for to set her back on the killer’s trail. But the closer she gets, the harder it forces her to confront the memories of herself and her best friend. What was her secret? What got her killed? Maybe Morgan didn’t know her at all.

About Tracey S. Phillips: Tracey is a serial artist. She grew up in Indianapolis, the daughter of an artist and granddaughter of a pianist, teacher and honored supporter of musical arts. Playing music and creating art were a way of life when she entered college as a fashion model and musician.

She married her best friend and became a mother. While raising kids she tried painting, drawing, jewelry making and even colorful furniture re-design, until finally settling on a successful career teaching piano lessons. As her children grew, she journaled about her childhood and the drama of daily life until stories began to form. Then she fantasized about a vacation alone with her laptop! She had stories to tell. When finally she put pen to paper, fingertips to the keyboard, she wrote four manuscripts.

She currently lives in Madison Wisconsin with her husband and two dogs.

Psychological Thriller is her love and female characters drive her stories. With its sociopathic characters and twists and turns, it gives a ride like no other.

About Temper

After years of struggling in the Chicago theater scene, ambitious actress Kira Rascher finally lands the role of a lifetime. The catch? Starring in Temper means working with Malcolm Mercer, a mercurial director who’s known for pushing his performers past their limits—onstage and off.

Kira’s convinced she can handle Malcolm, but the theater’s cofounder Joanna Cuyler is another story. Joanna sees Kira as a threat—to her own thwarted artistic aspirations, her twisted relationship with Malcolm, and the shocking secret she’s keeping about the upcoming production. But as opening night draws near, Kira and Joanna both start to realize that Malcolm’s dangerous extremes are nothing compared to what they’re capable of themselves.

An edgy, addictive, and fiendishly clever tale of ambition, deceit, and power, Temper is a timely, heart-in-your-throat psychological thriller that will leave you breathless.

About Layne Fargo: Layne Fargo is the author of the thrillers Temper and They Never Learn. She’s a Pitch Wars mentor, Vice President of the Chicagoland chapter of Sisters in Crime, and the cocreator of the podcast Unlikeable Female Characters. Layne lives in Chicago with her partner and their pets.
