Book Cellar favorite Ben Tanzer returns to launch his new collection of essays titled Be Cool. Special guests: Zoe Zolbrod and Robert James Russell will also be onhand reading some of their own work.
Ben Tanzer is the author of the books Orphans, which won the 24th Annual Midwest Book Award in Fantasy/SciFi/Horror/Paranormal and a Bronze medal in the Science Fiction category at the 2015 IPPY Awards, Lost in Space, which received the 2015 Devil's Kitchen Reading Award in Prose Nonfiction, The New York Stories, SEX AND DEATH and now Be Cool - a memoir (sort of), among others. He has also contributed to Punk Planet, Clamor, and Men's Health, serves as Senior Director, Acquisitions for Curbside Splendor and frequently speaks on the topics of messaging, framing, social media, blogging, fiction, essay writing and independent publishing. Zoe Zolbrod is the author of the forthcoming memoir The Telling (Curbside Splendor, May 2016) and the novel Currency (Other Voices Books, 2010), which was a Friends of American Writers prize finalist. Her essays have appeared in Salon, Stir Journal, The Weeklings, The Manifest Station, The Nervous Breakdown, and The Rumpus, where she is currently the Sunday co-editor. She gradated from Oberlin College and received an M.A. from the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Program for Writers. Born in Western Pennsylvania, she now lives in Evanston, IL, with her husband and two children.
Robert James Russell is the author of New Plains (forthcoming, 2017), Mesilla and Don't Ask Me to Spell It Out. He is the founding editor of the literary journals Midwestern Gothic and CHEAP POP, and he serves as co-director of the Voices of the Middle West literary festival in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
