David Moscow and Jon Moscow "From Scratch"

Co-Authors David Moscow and Jon Moscow will be in store at The Book Cellar discussing their new book From Scratch: Adventures in Harvesting, Hunting, Fishing and Foraging on a Fragile Planet.

About the Book:

Have you ever been curious about the journey that your food took before making it to your table? What about how your experience might change given the economic and environmental crises that food producers and their communities currently face?

In FROM SCRATCH: Adventures in Harvesting, Hunting, Fishing, and Foraging on a Fragile Planet, creator and star of the series From Scratch David Moscow and his father Jon Moscow take us on an exploration of our planet’s complex and interconnected food supply, showing us where our food comes from and why it matters.

Over the last four years, David has traversed the globe embarking on a culinary journey to learn more about the places where our food comes from and the communities who produce it. From thrilling tales of almost drowning while spearfishing in the Sea of Sardinia to once-in-a-lifetime moments like cheesemaking with a shepherd in a cave in the mountains of Barbàza, the book is chock-full of delectable characters, settings, and dishes.

Among the experts who David interviewed are countless fisherfolk, farmers, scientists, community activists, historians, and hunters from all over the world. He visited a wide array of countries to learn more about where our food comes from including Mexico, the Philippines, South Africa, Kenya, Croatia, Malta, Peru, Costa Rica, Italy, Finland, and Iceland. He also sheds light on domestic and local food production issues by venturing into New York, Texas, Utah, Wyoming, and Washington.

FROM SCRATCH offers a powerful call to action urging us to marvel in the world around us while simultaneously examining the environmental issues, cultural concerns, and overlooked histories intertwined with the food we eat to survive and thrive.
