Rendered from fruit purchased from growers in Mehring, where Weis is now also a landholder through his wife’s family, this selection offers impeccable balance with virtual dryness, liveliness, and lift; generous flavors of nut oils, coffee, and tropical fruit (all typical for this village), apricot and grapefruit; and oily, fusil, as well as classic Mosel wet stone traits.
2008 Riesling "QbA" (Germany, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer)
Incorporating fruit from the upper reaches of the towering Laurentiuslay as well as from Leiwener Klostergarten and Wiltinger Schlangengraben, this wine smells pungently of orange zest, sage, and under-ripe apricot. Citrus oil, apricot skin tartness, and wet stone mark the considerable finish of this excellent value, best suited for enjoyment over the next couple of years.
